The Furs
The Psychedelic Furs are coming to the UK in October. They're going to play their classic 1981 "TALK TALK TALK" album in its entirety. Now personally if I had the choice I'd rather hear The Psychedelic Furs play their debut album "The Psychedelic Furs" in its entirety, but I don't have the choice, so I'll just hold my board up for one last time and then go and sit back in my shame cupboard.
If I was asked which album by The Psychedelic Furs I'd like to hear played live other than their debut "The Psychedelic Furs". Then I guess I'd say "Talk Talk Talk"! So that's lucky cos that's what their going to play. Have we got it straight then; The Psychedelic Furs are going to play their second album "Talk Talk Talk" in its entirety. It's not my favourite Psychedelic Furs album but then what do I know. It is my second favourite Psychedelic Furs album and that's well good enough for me to advise you to get off your arse and get out there. The gigs are:
24th OCTOBER FROME,Cheese & Grain
26th OCTOBER MANCHESTER,Manchester Ritz
27th OCTOBER BIRMINGHAM,Birmingham Institute
28th OCTOBER LONDON,HMV Forum, London
29th OCTOBER GLASGOW,O2 ABC, Glasgow
All great and vastly different venues. The Cheese & Grain is a truly bonkers venue. The Manchester Ritz is a gem (well it was a lifetime ago when I last went there). The spruced up Forum, Kentish Town is a top venue if you like opulence (and apparently some people do). The Glasgow ABC??? Mmm I've not been to Glasgow since The Apollo burnt down and the Glasgow ABC well I've not got a clue but I'm sure its wonderful. But wait a minute, the Birmingham Institute, never heard of it. Oh right, the voice in my ear piece has just told me the Birmingham HMV Institute is The Birmingham Barfly rebranded, rejuvenated and well and truly revamped. Nice. So it's not going to be down the dirty stairs into the dingy Barfly doss hole anymore? Apparently not, shame. NEW VENUE DETAILS HERE
What you've just been listening to was a commercial for the album "Talk Talk Talk". You see prior to the album coming out The Psychedelic Furs released the single "Mr Jones" backed with the Martin Hannett produced track "Susan's Strange" and then the single "Dumb Waiters" which was housed in a playable cover. Yes that's right a playable COVER! What d'you mean I'm shitting you? Look it was in a payable cover; it played at 33 r.p.m. and featured clips from the forthcoming album. It was a commercial for "Talk Talk Talk"; like what you hear now buy the album sort of thing. There was no myspace in these days' children - the playable cover was myspace - just without computers, the internet, digital recording, and all that other shit.
Why the "flexi cover pre-album blipvert commercial" failed to catch on is beyond me.
