The Neat Hips review

December 2010 Issue 443

ROUND TABLE
HEART OF A PUNK - SOUL OF A RASTA version.

"Hips" the new single from The NEAT plopped through the letterbox today John.

Did it Ed?

Yes you're listening to it now John.

Oh right. It sounds alright dun it.

Course it dun. The Neat are from HULL and they sound vaguely like the FALL, what could be better.

Err………………The Fall playing in Hull?

Shut up its wonderful piece of vinyl and its release No.2 by Chewing Gum Records.

Chewing Gum Records who the fuck are Chewing Gum records?

Chewing Gum records is the Kaiser Chiefeeeze own record label and The Neat are their first signing.

Shit me the Kaisers must have some KA$H then.

Apparently snow.

Do you think they'd give us some KA$H if we sent them a begging letter.

Mmmmmm probably snot.

"Hips" is a rattle and roll dislocated existential romp vocalised by an interlocutor using abstract diffraction to convey his conceptualised reasoning.

Does that mean anything Ed?

Nah I don't think so, it's just what I guess they'll be saying in ARTROCKER.

Well don't say anything like that again Ed or I'll stab you with my Crackerjack pencil.

What do you think the Kaisers saw in The Neat when they first saw them play live? Do you think it was the same thing Leggy Mountbatten saw in the Fab Four when he went to see them at the Cavern?

Yes I guess it was TIGHT TROUSERS. Tight trousers first, money making potential second.

Yeah those Kaisers have always been susceptibly to a TIGHTLY tailored trouser. Let's hope the tight tailoring leads to an album release for The Neat some time soon.

What's next.

The B side "Counteract"?

I don't mind if we do.

Disembodied voice of Howard Devoto?

"I Love you Big Dummy"?

I know John, I love you too mate.
