The Last Record Shops of Engand (Part 5)
Sister Ray
34-35 Berwick St, London, W1F 8RP
Hey before we start I need to get one thing STRAIGHT. I don't know this woman in the photo! Yes he, I mean she, did give me her card. And yes I do know her name, I mean his name, it's Betty Bubbles! But other than that I don't know this girl from Adam, I mean Eve. And also it's pure coincidence that I've been sleeping in the car since my wife found Betty's card in my wallet. OK! Let's move on.
Sister Ray is a more than wonderful record shop which doth contain everything within its portals a person could possibly want to posses. Second hand & new LP's, second hand & new 45's, second hand & new CD's, in fact everything in all formats. And there are flyers for gigs shoved here and there just to prove it's not solely concerned with itself.
It's dark and dingy with a low slung ceiling; just like any Record Shop worth its salt should be. It has a rack of record recommendations which unlike most Record Shops doesn't make you want to laugh out loud. Yep Sister Ray knows something about its subject and wants to share it with you. GO THERE!
There is one thing though. Some thing that bugs me. I always get a strange unearthly feeling when I'm there. The place feels unreal somehow, dream like; like a film set or an old photo. Strange really, I can't quite put it into words. Oh well, not to worry I guess it must just be the pink pigeons.
