The Psychedelic Furs cancel UK dates.
The Furs have cancelled their three scheduled dates in the UK. What a shitter! I was more than ready and good to go, especially when they had announced that they were going to play the whole of their second album "Talk Talk Talk", I was enthused. But I would have been ecstatic. Don't get me wrong I think "Talk Talk Talk" is a great album, but The Psychedelic Furs debut is were my particular music preference resides. We're back to individual TASTE here, and perhaps I should take the time to say more about the Furs debut for those of you in doubt. Anyway let's hope the gigs will be rescheduled but in the meantime I shall have to nail my colours back to the wall.
Keith Floyd - A matter of TASTE
On the Stranglers & Strangled websites you will find fitting tributes to Keith Floyd who died in September (click below). Keith Floyd and The Stranglers were somehow synonymous in the early eighties, if you are a fan of one you are most definitely a fan of the other and I certainly was a fan of Floyd. I visited Floyd's Inn (sometimes) once but on that occasion he wasn't "in" so I never got to meet him in the flesh. Because of his patronage though, I did venture down to Padstow a few times to Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant - long before he became a celebrity and Padstow got changed irrevocably into Steinville. Stein's TV career has basically aped everything that Floyd did before him. Fish, France, Local Producers, Stein has simply followed in the footfalls of Floyd. But Mr Stein has made a mint whilst Floyd sometimes teetered on the brink of being skint. So why did I love Floyd? Simple, just watch the old shows, it's not Keith Floyd's fine qualities, his business acumen, his manners, it's just that he was as dysfunctional and the rest of us, and wasn't scared to show it. Keith Floyd was a one off, irreplaceable.
