Madness
Wolverhampton Civic Hall 17th December 2009

Madness came back!
30 years since the Two Tone Tour!
Nah it can't be!
Actually it does feel like it!
All things MAD, NUTTY and BLAH DE BLAH rolled into Wolves red bus and all.

It was like Brum the week before, except not, cos it wasn't in Brum, we had the "Take it or Leave it" film again or for the first time and the same set list except for a femaleless version "On the Town" from "Foldgate"

There was however something of the utmost importance to be learnt from the evening's entertainment……. The music (I'd like to think tape) that was played between film & band was the same at Wolves as at Brum. In Brum the crowd exploded when Tenpole Tudor's "Swords of a Thousand Men" was given an airing, whilst in Wolves it got just a respectful appreciation. When "Town Called Malice" by The Jam was played in Brum there was not the slightest flutter, but at The Civic the place erupted the balcony especially, they sung every word. Hmm The Jam & Weller (though quintessentially of London) will always be tattooed into the hearts and souls of the Wolverhampton punter.

Tonight amid the fez bouncing, pint flinging uproar Madness were completing a small tattoo of their own. Tomo got himself up on the speakers and tried to get his little fingers up onto the balcony rail but it couldn't be done. Suggs enquired "Are you ok up there on the balcony? You look like you've been there since the Slade in Flame tour of '74" They had, but where was Dave Hill's / Chris Foreman's SUPER YOB guitar as seen on "Shut Up", what's happened to that lovely hulking bit of wood?

Absence makes the heart grow fonder they say.
What a load of knackers!
Madness Wolverhampton loves you!
(Even the pissed girl who fell on me during the encore loves you)
So...........Don't be a stranger!

OK so I've not exactly filled the page here, perhaps you could help, here's the Madness top ten from NME '85 just update and complete with your own selection and fill the space………………….thanx
