Letters from a Welsh Girl

Here's a delightful letter we received recently from our good friend Helen Bach.

Hiya Boys

I've got a bit of a conundrum for you. As you know The Manics new album "Postcards from a Young Man" comes out soon and I was thinkin of getting meself a copy of the vinyl as usual. But ave you seen the price of it a? Its £21.99 it's is! I can't afford that can I? So what I thought I'd do was flog one of my old LPs so I can buy the new one. Would you be interested in buyin my copy of Everything Must Go ? I've enclosed a few pics. Just let me know.

Love xx
Helen

Dear Helen,

Yes I can see you've got a lovely VINYL copy of "Everything Must Go" and with the poster as well. I'm sure you could easily and bag yourself 25 notes for it on the interweb. But aren't you getting yourself into a catch 22 situation here darling. Cos once you've sold "Everything Must Go" and bought "Postcards from a Young Man" you'd then need to buy another copy of "Everything must Go". So forget that for a game of marbles cos I've got a better idea.

I can see from your photo you've got the limited edition version "Everything Must Go" with the extremely rare (nudge nudge wink wink nods as good as a wink to a blind bat) "Ivor the Engine" giveaway. The Manics are cartoonualised on page 7 queuing to get chips at Mrs Thomas's Fish & Chip Shop - no they really are! This book is so rare (I think there were only 250 copies made) it must be worth a mint! Record Collectors Magazine daren't even mention it its so RARE!

All we, (sorry I mean you) need to do is sell this little beauty and we'll (I mean you'll) easily able to afford a copy of "Postcards from a Young Man" - for both of us. But first we need to convince the unsuspecting (I mean discerning) Manics fan that the book is kosher - cos of course it is!

So Helen stick the book on ebay twice, list one today & one next Wednesday. I'll buy the first one for £50 odd; drag a few folk in. And before you know it we'll both be listening to a copy of the new MANICS album on vinyl. Lush a!

Hope this sorts out your problem.

Much Love Ed.

Or conversely, and less perversely Columbia could drop the bloody price of "Postcards from a Young Man" to at least £15.99; like GRINDERMAN 2 on MUTE and THE FALL's YFOC on Domino; and then maybe every vinyl loving monkey could get themselves a copy! And I wouldn't have to make up such utter COCK as this. Thanks.
