The faith - The torch - The true way - Call it what you will, it has been kept burning over the last few years by Earl China Smith and the Inner de Yard acoustic recordings. Last month saw the latest release; a CD/DVD package featuring the "Masters of Reggae" LIVE & unplugged and captured in Paris during 2009.
The live CD enlists the varied talents of The Viceroys, Linval Thompson, Cedric "Congo" Myton, Kiddus I, Derajah etc. and everything, both old & new, moves seamlessly along under the careful tutelage and easy hand of Smith. The only downside (for the listener rather than the watcher) is not all the tracks on the DVD feature on the CD - but it's no big deal - go here to watch.
What I want to share with you now though is part of the bonus material on the DVD "the extras". It features Junior Murvin recording "Police and Thieves" for his 2007 Inner de Yard album. It's a brilliant piece of footage, and the song takes us back to when Punky Reggae began!
