December 2010 Issue 443

Greetings! Welcome to the FANZINE Heart of a Punk Soul of a Rasta where we shall look back at what we enjoyed in November 2010, but first, it's time for the adverts. Not THE ADVERTS, not TV SMITH, I mean the real adverts, the ones on the idiot box. In November the Sex Pistols could be heard doing "Pretty Vacant" on a William Hill ad; Sons and Daughters (time for them to come back in 2011) could be heard doing "Guilt Complex" on a TIMBERLAND ad; and Gang of Four were backing up an XBOX ad with "Naturals Not in It". Strange days indeed! But what does this licensing music for adverts guff mean? Well personally I think getting some decent music on the ads is a win win situation. The purists get to shout "sell out" (they love doing that); and the artists get some KA$H (and they love that). What could be better?

Also on the idiot box in November were Serge Pizzorno of "Kasabian" and Noel Gallagher of "No fixed abode" drawing the BALLS for the FA CUP 3rd Round. It was a nice touch by ITV, that after the hard work had been done by Messer's Pizzorno and Gallagher they chose a track by "GLASVEGAS" to play under the full list of the ENGLISH FA Cup fixtures - "forgive them Father for they know not what they do" - there was no ad for the music of Serge or Noel but perhaps they've got enough KA$H already.

I don't know how much The Pistols got from William Hill for the Pretty Vacant ad, but needless to say it must have been more than poor old SIDNEY got for all his tireless work advertising COSSACK VODKA. Hey ho happy days!
