Beady Eye - Bring the Light - B/W Sons of the Stage.
November saw the first release from Beady Eye - by a predictable free download - which caused a deal of predictable internet chit chat bollocks. Some people thought the release was a piece of crap (like they'd know) but Mr Creation AKA Alan Mcgee thought different and sprang to the defence of Beady Eye (like they need it) saying "'How can you judge them on one tune?'.
Well they were both wrong (like I'd know) because "Bring the Light" is certainly not a piece of crap but you can judge Beady Eye on one tune. Well, ok then, on two tunes. What the single is, is predictable. Predictable and yet still better than pretty much anything else around at the moment. The cover with is a perfect piece of sixties stylised pastiche - no surprise there. "Bring the Light" has a stock Lennon-esque piano riff and Liam does his usual clipped mantra melody line over the top - so no surprise there. The B side is a version of "Sons of the Stage" - a stock Oasis opener originally by World of the Twist who were a massively overrated or massively underrated bunch of cults who lived for 30 seconds in the early 90's. Given the Beady treatment "Sons of the Stage" has all the wishy washy dance shitiness of the original shook out of it, and a large pair of cojones sewn on instead - so predictably f**king A.
No shocks from the debut of Liam & Beady Eye then; but then there were never any shocks as far as Oasis were concerned. They soldiered on year after year unswerving unchanging; more like an American band in that regard. They kept on keeping on sticking to the blueprint through thick & thin never succumbing to the English disease of burning the past. And it doesn't look like Beady Eye is for deviating either, their course seems set by the first release, and hopefully there won't be any dramatic mood swings cum the debut LP. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Predictable? Yes? Good, keep it there.
The main thing that pisses me off though is this. I bought the single on vinyl for a FIVER and yet there are now 80 odd being sold on Ebay for 20 quid. And................I wasn't able to get a ticket for Manchester and now there's hundreds on Ebay and I've got to pay over the fuckin' odds to get meself a ticket - yeah we're back to the predictable again - today it seems every fucker wants to be a tout!
