Barney Bubbles and the NME

Barney Bubbles

Blowing Bubbles

During April NME ditched Barney Bubbles masthead and with it any remaining vestiges of a credible past. If you don't know what a masthead is; here are some for your delectation:

'78 pre Bubbles nothingness

70's & 80's

90's

And beyond.

The New Nondescript

The (new) (latest) editor of the NME (spit) Krissi Murison describes the new design as "much more mature and aspirational" Yes aspirational, aspirational with a capital ASS. Coming out with this sort of shit leaves me unsure whether this Krissi Murison is a person or a corporate machine but that matters little. All I can say is: "if the NME is going to stay afloat by being aspirational then I'm DUTCH!" Perhaps you could try being inspirational Murison? Yes I know it's been a long time since the NME has been any where near the parish of inspiration but why not give it a go.

Anyway Murison went of to say that in the future NME would be serving up "content which focuses on being in-depth, opinionated and above all knowledgeable" The NME knowledgeable! This must be the biggest joke of 2010. A knowledgeable NME coming to a city near you soon along with the impartial BBC, a representative politician, a non racist all white police force and the BNP as the new sponsor of the Notting Hill Carnival. Excuse me for a moment, what's that noise, it sounds like a bell ringing, oh yes, it's a death knell sounding just for the NME.

OK fun over.

Its obvious now on sales figures alone that the NME is in its death throws, it will now no doubt be rapidly passed from Editor to Editor like a ticking parcel with each new BOD arriving, momentarily talking cock, and doing their best not to be the one left with an editorial corpse on their CV. And then what will we poor punters be left with? A UK without a weekly music rag that's what. And how sad is that? Well personally I think about as sad as it gets. And why has the weekly music rag died? Well as Moz once famously said:

"If you're wondering why
All the love that you long for eludes you
And people are rude and cruel to you
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
I'll tell you why
But you wouldn't believe me
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You just haven't earned it, son
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
You must suffer and cry for a longer time"

I could tell you why now, but hey, wait until you can't sleep and then I'll start.
In the meantime here's a good piece article from the NME when BB left us.
